BMW R12 London Bike Shed Moto Show

Along with new aesthetics, this bespoke BMW R12 also benefits from premium hardware components.

At the ongoing Bike Shed Moto Show in London, BMW unveiled a bespoke R12, which is the first example of its kind to be based on the cruiser. Dubbed “Street Ride”, this one-of-one R12 is built by BMW custom specialist, Pier City Custom (PCC) based out of Wessex, UK.

Using the standard BMW R12 as the base, the “Street Ride” is mechanically the same. So, it continues to be powered by the 1,270 cc engine that is good for 95 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 110 Nm. However, PCC has taken it a notch up by equipping a bespoke G&G exhaust system for that added grunt. Along with that, they have also removed the air box for a more cleaner look and to expose the pod-style filter. PCC has also updated the rear shock absorbers and has equipped the bespoke R12 by equipping premium Öhlins units instead, the front suspension remains the same as the standard bike.

Wrapping up all these small, subtle upgrades is that gorgeous paint scheme. The metallic orange, red, and black colour on the tank section gives it a nice retro touch that harks back to the 70s. The glossy texture further enhances the shape of the tank, and by keeping the underbody panels blacked out, PCC has managed to showcase a distinct colourway, which will not just impress existing R12 owners but might also encourage them to get one done on similar lines. The colour scheme is accurately complemented by restyled bodywork in the form of reworked front and rear mudguards and a headlight cowl.

On the other hand, a few days ago, BMW also officially showcased the R20 Concept at its annual event at the Villa d’Este at Lake Como. While the R20 can be regarded as an evolution of the R12 in the future, official details are still under wraps. Unfortunately, BMW does not retail the R12 and the R12 NineT in India, will they be launched in the future? Maybe. But so far nothing is official as of now.
