Hero’s communication chief has overseen many important milestones in the company's heritage
Over two decades of service, managing one of the biggest shake ups in the Indian two-wheeler industry and overseeing future big project executions, Bharatendu Kabi steps away as the Head of Corporate Communication & Corporate Social Responsibility for Hero MotoCorp. He will actively step away from his duties come July 31, with his final few projects about to see the light of day very soon enough.
Bharatendu started his career donning the hat of a journalist, before joining Hero-Honda, as it was known then, he worked at PepsiCo for five years as the corporate communication manager. Like previously mentioned, prospering communications of strength and assurance that Hero as a brand would emerge still strong after a split with Honda, Bharatendu had quite a challenge on his hands. And yet, the outcome is very positive as not only did Hero manage to remain a strong player but also attain a global leader status. In fact, he was one of the key players in the grand launch of the newly formed Hero MotoCorp in the UK, the scale of which is still discussed among automotive journalists.
His contributions can especially be felt with Hero trying things out that it normally didn't before. For instance, heading to EICMA, a two-wheeler mirror show where companies showcase future products and Hero has to be there. Or even the Dakar Rally, which Hero took up as a challenge in 2017 and is now one of the top forces, battling it out with the likes of KTM and Honda. And finally Hero World, an event held every two years to celebrate Hero’s achievements and give us a glimpse of future products and tech.
“This has indeed been an incredible ride – from an Indo-Japanese joint venture with two manufacturing plants and just four export markets in 2005, the Company has rapidly grown to be an iconic Indian multinational today with a global footprint in almost 50 countries, a robust R&D ecosystem and multiple manufacturing and assembly facilities in different parts of the world,” shared Bharatendu on his LinkedIn profile.
“I am also fortunate to have been a small part of the core team responsible for our association with multiple disciplines of sports – from motorsports to cricket, and field hockey to golf and football.”
Bharatendu Kabi was among the closest confidants of Pawan Munjal, chairman of Hero MotoCorp and could be seen by his side at all major events of the brand. On a personal note, Bharatendu is among the most polite and gentlemanly personalities in the industry and maintains cordial relationships with journalists. His replacement will have a tough task on his hand given his predecessors great achievements, we, at Acko Drive wish Bharatendu Kabi all the very best for his future endevaours.
