The new 5 Series is expected to be priced around ₹75 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
BMW India is launching the eight-generation 5 Series in India tomorrow and it will come exclusively in a long-wheelbase (LWB) version. BMW opened bookings for the 5 Series LWB in June. Additionally, the 5 Series also gets an electric version, which was launched in April and is priced at ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India).

The outgoing generation of BMW’s luxury sedan was priced between ₹65.40 - 74.50 lakh and the new generation will be priced at a premium. Expect the new model to start around ₹80 lakh. The new 5 Series will go up against the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, slated to launch later this year. The outgoing E-Class, of which only 500 units are left in India, is priced between ₹76.05 - 89.15 lakh. The other rival for the 5 Series is the Audi A6 (₹64.41 - 70.79 lakh). The new 5 Series gets large kidney grilles which have an illuminated surround and golden accents. The grilles are flanked by slim LED headlamps with two vertical LED DRLs. The benefit of the extra length goes to the rear passengers as the rear doors are longer. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels and can be upgraded to 19-inch alloy wheels. At the back, it has slim LED lights and gold accents on the bumper. The new 5 Series is only offered in two colours – Carbon Black and Sparkling Copper Grey Metallic.

Inside, the new 5 Series has a minimalistic design with a curved display sitting front and centre. Minimalism can also be seen in the hidden AC vents. BMW has also focused on sustainability with eco-friendly materials for the upholstery. Furthermore, it has a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running on BMW’s iDrive 8.5 with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system and four-zone climate control.

Powering the 5 Series will be a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid assist. The engine produces 205 bhp and 330 Nm and is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It could also get a 194 bhp, 450 Nm, 2.0-litre diesel engine later.
