For the asking price, you are likely to get a neat EV car.
Behold, India’s most expensive electric two-wheeler is here and it makes the asking price of the Ultraviolette F77 look like peanuts. Yes, BMW has ridden in the CE 04 electric maxi-scooter into the country at a whopping ₹ 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom India). That is some serious moolah for a premium-badged electric scooter, which honestly doesn’t have as much performance on tap over its Indian counterparts.
Not to deny its Star Wars-inspired looks, the CE 04 definitely has an out-of-this-world vibe. Its size and proportions are larger than any other scooter on sale in the country, including its petrol-powered cousin, the C 400 GT. And its largeness can be felt as it tips the scales at 231 kilos, making it nearly just as heavy as the new BMW R 1300 GS.

The driving force on the CE 04 is provided by an electric motor with peak power rating of 31 kW and 61 Nm. While on paper these are the most significant numbers to ever grace a scooter on Indian roads, it doesn’t translate to earth shattering performance in the real-world. A 0-50kmph acceleration time of 2.6 seconds is impressive but the top speed is restricted to 120 kmph. And even though it packs a 8.5 kWh battery (another largest in the Indian e-scooter space), the range on offer is just a measly 130 km.

Alas, the CE 04 remains an expensive EV for just a handful of takers. The launch of the CE 04 is more of a context setting exercise for BMW Motorrad India as in a few months’ time, the Bavarian brand will be introducing the smaller and funky CE 02 electric monkey bike. And since it is engineered along with TVS and built at Hosur, the asking price is not likely to be astronomically high.
