BMW i5 LWB Launched at ₹79.60 Lakh

After making a surprise debut in India last month, the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) has now been launched in India at ₹79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The luxury sedan is now locally assembled at the company's plant in Chennai.

BMW i5 LWB Price in India

The BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (eDrive35L M Sport) is launched in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹79.60 lakh. The limited-run First Edition variant carries the exact same introductory price tag of ₹79.60 lakh, with all 99 allocated units sold out before the official launch.

BMW i5 LWB Design

The i5 LWB measures 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, featuring a 3,105 mm wheelbase that makes it the largest vehicle in its segment.

Upfront, it features a prominent BMW kidney grille framed with BMW Iconic Glow contour line lighting. Additional exterior elements include adaptive LED headlights with vertical daytime running lights, a shallower Hofmeister kink embossed with a '5' badge, black side skirts, flush door openers, a 5-pattern welcome carpet light, and 20-inch M alloy wheels in a mixed-tire configuration. 

The rear gets slim L-shaped twin-light LED taillights. Exterior paint options comprise Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black, and Oxide Grey.

BMW i5 LWB Battery, Range and Charging

The i5 LWB is powered by an 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery pack. It delivers an electric driving range of up to 669 km on a single charge under the MIDC test cycle. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 160 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in 33 minutes.

Every purchase includes a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger capable of up to 11 kW AC home charging with professional installation. Power comes from a single rear electric motor generating 265 bhp and 410 Nm of torque, pushing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 195 km/h.

BMW i5 LWB Interior and Features

The sedan introduces a fully vegan interior lined in standard dual-tone Veganza perforated upholstery in Copper Brown and Atlas Grey. The dashboard features a single BMW Curved Display setup (12.3-inch instrument cluster and 14.9-inch control screen) and an illuminated crystal-like BMW Interaction Bar integrating ambient lighting and AC controls.

Controls are styled with Crafted Clarity handmade crystal glass elements, accompanied by a bottom-flattened M steering wheel. Comfort appointments include front active seat ventilation, four-zone climate control, a Sky Lounge Panoramic Glass Sunroof, and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.

The sold-out First Edition variant added a rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder, Silver Bronze interior accents, Fineline open-pored wood trim, and laser-engraved ‘First Edition’ dashboard badging. Tech systems include BMW Operating System 8.5, Digital Key Plus supporting up to 18 users, an in-car camera, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

BMW i5 Rivals in India

In the Indian electric luxury sedan segment, the BMW i5 LWB primarily competes against the Lexus ES 500e, which was launched in India earlier this year. The BMW undercuts the Lexus by almost ₹10 lakh.
