The updated M2 produces 473 bhp, 20 bhp more than before.
Nearly two years after BMW revealed the second-generation M2, the German marque has now updated the sports car. While the cosmetic changes are few, the updated BMW M2 gets more power and features.
Under the hood is the same 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, inline-6 engine that now produces 473 bhp, 20 bhp more than before. The peak torque figure remains unchanged at 550 Nm for the manual and 600 Nm for the automatic gearbox. The engine continues to get an option of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The extra power improves the acceleration figures of the M2 by 0.1 seconds. With the manual gearbox, it can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.2 seconds and with the automatic, in 4 seconds. The 0-200 kmph acceleration times have also increased. The manual and automatic versions can do it in 13.7 and 12.9 seconds, respectively, an improvement of 0.6 seconds. BMW says it has also made changes to the throttle mapping and response in all drive modes, which it says will help improve the driving characteristics.
Cosmetically, there aren’t many changes to the updated BMW M2. It gets a new design for the alloy wheels, blacked-out badging, and blacked-out exhaust tips. It still gets a staggered wheel set-up with 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the back and they are available in black as standard, with an option of finishing them in silver. BMW is also offering a few new colours on the M2, including yellow, green and purple.
Inside, the updated M2 gets a new flat-bottom steering wheel and BMW’s new iDrive 8.5 operating system for the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. Additionally, the carbon fibre bucket seats are now available as a separate option, rather than being bundled with the M Race Track pack.
BMW sells the second-gen M2 in India for ₹99.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and we expect the updates to be available in India sometime this year. When the refreshed BMW M2 launches in India, it will be priced at a slight premium and will breach the ₹1 crore (ex-showroom, India).
