The upcoming BMW R 12 GS will be an off-road enduro bike that will be based on the BMW R12 nineT platform.
After years of development and test runs, BMW will finally debut the new R 12 GS on March 27. The upcoming off-road enduro bike was officially teased for the first time yesterday on the brand’s social media platform. While the teaser didn’t reveal the production bike at all, it did show the side plate with the bike’s name on it, followed by the launch date. Check out the teaser below:
The BMW R 12 GS was earlier anticipated to debut last year at theEICMA motorcycle show, but BMW has taken its sweet time since. The bike was already spotted in its testing phase before, revealing its hardcore styling and the fact that it will be built around the same tubular steel frame which already underpins the BMW R nineT. Plus unlike the BMW R nineT Urban G/S, the R 12 GS will be a proper off-roader, as the test mule was spotted running on 21/17-inch cross spoke wheels shod with knobby tyres.

While we are yet to confirm the powerplant, we believe that the R 12 GS will in all probability be powered by the 1,170 cc, boxer-twin, air-oil cooled engine from the R 12 nineT. This mill is likely to churn out the same 109 bhp and 115 Nm, which will be sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
As for its features, we expect the R 12 GS will come with a similar round TFT cluster with all the usual connectivity features, as is the case with most modern bikes now. Along with that, we can also expect switchable ABS and different ride modes on offer too, all of which will aid in off-road riding more efficiently.

Will the BMW R 12 GS launch in India? We can’t say for sure as of now. But given that BMW Motorrad already retails the R 12 nineT at a whopping ₹21.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), we can’t totally negate the possibility of the R 12 GS arriving here. So stay tuned to this space, for all the latest info about BMW’s upcoming enduro bike.
