The wheelbase has increased by 108mm, which gives second-row occupants a lot more knee room and a longer seat cushion.
The BMW X1 LWB has been launched in India, priced at ₹49,90,000 for the sole petrol variant. This actually makes it slightly more affordable than the standard wheelbase version, which now starts at ₹50,90,000 (all prices ex-showroom). It is available in only a single trim: sDrive18i M Sport. The new SUV is manufactured in India, at the BMW Group Plant, Chennai. Bookings are already open.

While this SUV looks mostly identical to the standard wheelbase version, the biggest change on the X1 LWB is, as you’d expect, its length. It is 116mm longer overall, while the wheelbase has increased by 108mm. This added stretch directly benefits second-row occupants, offering 109mm of extra knee room and a 15mm longer seat cushion. As a result, BMW says the long-wheelbase variant is a comfortable choice for owners who frequently travel with rear-seat passengers.
Overall, the X1 LWB measures 4,616 mm long with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, 2,104 mm in width, and 1,641 mm tall. Buyers also get 18-inch M light alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. The panoramic sunroof covers an area of 9 square feet (almost 1m2).
Other aesthetics remain largely untouched, maintaining BMW's signatures such as the large front kidney grille, sleek twin-pod adaptive LED headlights, and L-shaped LED taillights.
Buyers have a choice of four colours: Nightdusk Blue, Skyscraper Grey, Carbon Black and Mineral White. The Veganza perforated upholstery comes in either Castanea or Dual Tone Smoke White Grey.

The dashboard of this SUV centers around BMW’s signature curved display, combining a 10.25-inch digital driver unit and a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by the latest iDrive system. The X1 LWB comes with an M Sport steering wheel.
The lineup of features includes multi-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio setup, wireless charging, intelligent high-beam assist, and an electric tailgate. The driver and front passenger get multi-way electrically adjustable sport seats.
A BMW Digital Premium Package adds extra features including enhanced BMW Maps with navigation and traffic visualisations as well as trip suggestions. There’s a welcome light animation, smart window opener feature, and additional My Modes such as Digital Art, Expressive, and Relax. It also enables extra third-party apps for entertainment, information, and communication.

Standard safety features include Parking Assistant using front and rear sensors, Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree surround view, Reversing Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assistant, Cruise Control with Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Protection, and Attentiveness Assistant. The X1 LWB is equipped with eight airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control (CBC), an electronic vehicle immobilizer, and crash sensors.
Under the hood, the BMW X1 LWB is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending power exclusively to the front wheels. This setup generates 156 bhp and 230 Nm of torque.
The LWB version will remain petrol-only in India for the time being, as the diesel engine option on the standard wheelbase version is not on offer here.
