Bosch has introduced its third-generation silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors in India, targeting the expanding electric vehicle (EV) market with a focus on improving efficiency and reducing energy losses in powertrain systems. The company said the latest chips deliver around 20 per cent higher performance compared with the previous generation and are designed for use in EV power electronics.

Bosch stated that the new generation is engineered to enhance battery usage, extend driving range without increasing battery size, and support lower total cost of ownership for users.

The company said it has already supplied more than 60 million SiC chips globally and continues to expand its semiconductor capabilities as part of its strategy to support electrification and advanced mobility technologies.
“Our advanced SiC technology is designed to deliver the tangible benefits that Indian consumers demand -- longer driving range, faster charging, and lower long-term costs,” Sandeep Nelamangala, Joint Managing Director, Bosch Limited, and President, Bosch Mobility India, said in a statement.
According to Bosch, the third-generation technology reduces energy losses while improving thermal efficiency, enabling more compact power electronics with lower cooling requirements. The company added that the reduced size of components can improve manufacturing efficiency by increasing the number of chips produced per wafer, which may aid wider adoption across vehicle segments.
Bosch indicated that the technology is not limited to premium electric vehicles but is also intended for mass-market applications, where efficiency, cost and reliability remain key considerations. The launch is aligned with India’s ongoing push towards electrification, localisation and advanced manufacturing.
Bosch said the rollout of the new semiconductor generation forms part of its broader approach to supporting India’s EV ecosystem, combining global semiconductor expertise with local market engagement.
