BSA showcased the Gold Star 650-based scrambler last week in Birmingham, UK.
Birmingham Small Arms is gearing up to launch its second motorcycle, the B65 Scrambler. The off-road-friendly iteration of the Gold Star 650 was already showcased last week at the Motorcycle Live event in Birmingham, UK. And as per the latest social media post from the brand, the same is slated to arrive in India too. While the exact date of the showcase is yet to be confirmed, the manufacturers have just mentioned, “Stay tuned, India, for more updates!” So, what is BSA’s B65 Scrambler?
For starters, it’s a much more rugged-looking and modern avatar to the retro-looking BSA Gold Star 650. While the latter gets proper dual-pod analogue clusters, the BSA B65 Scrambler boasts a single-pod fully-digital instrument cluster, and in all probability, Bluetooth connectivity will be available too. On the design front, while that visually captivating tear-drop-shaped fuel tank has been retained, we think it might be slightly smaller on the scrambler. Beyond that, the side panels are entirely new, and with that “65” decal, its scrambler aesthetic feels further enhanced. The headlight cowl is also more compact here, and it houses an LED unit.
The B65 Scrambler's underpinnings will be the same as those of the BSA Gold Star 650. This means the scrambler is suspended by the same telescopic fork and dual-shock absorber but should have more travel. Braking duties are carried out by disc brakes at both ends, but the bike rides on 19/ 17-inch wheels shod with off-road-centric Pirelli Scorpion STR tyres.
While BSA has not revealed the official spec sheet of the B65 Scrambler, we wager it will be powered by the same 650 cc, liquid-cooled, big bore single-cylinder engine that produces 45.6 bhp and 55 Nm in the Gold Star 650. While the performance figures might remain the same, BSA might tweak the final drive of the engine to suit the scrambler’s character, which can be achieved by fitting a larger rear sprocket.
We expect BSA to showcase the bike in India by the end of this year or by January 2025. And later on, we think BSA’s first scrambler will hit production by mid to late-2025. Once launched, it’ll have Royal Enfield’s new Bear 650 as its direct competitor.
