Kia India has posted teasers across its social media platforms, promising new launches in the BEV (battery electric vehicle) and HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) categories. The line “More than one possibility” seems to indicate multiple launches or multiple drivetrain options for a single upcoming model.

While the Syros EV is already widely expected to launch in July or August this year, the hybrid reference in the teaser is less certain. One possibility is the Sorento, which has recently been spotted testing here but does not have a launch window yet.

At its 2026 CEO Investor Day event in Seoul this April, Kia Corporation President and CEO Ho Sung Song called India a key market, and spoke about the company’s ambitions for India as well as specific plans for new model launches. The Syros EV, Sorento Hybrid and Carnival Hybrid were named as major upcoming launches.

Kia Syros EV specifications and competitors

The Syros EV is likely to be based on sister company Hyundai’s global K1 platform, on which the Inster is also manufactured. No details are yet known about its motor, range, or battery capacity options. While minor styling modifications can be expected compared to the ICE Syros, most of its cabin features and options such as a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilated rear seat cushions, triple displays, and L2 ADAS can be expected to carry over.

This will be the fourth EV in Kia’s India stable, positioned below the Carens Clavis EV, EV6 and EV9. It will compete against the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and Citroën E-C3X in the mass-market segment.

Kia Sorento Hybrid specifications and expected launch

The Kia Sorento is a three-row D-segment SUV. A test mule was recently spotted near Delhi, indicating that the company is close to launching it. Kia India is expected to take the CKD route, assembling units here to keep its price at around ₹40 lakhs. When it launches, it will compete with the MG Majestor and Toyota Fortuner.

It could launch with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol hybrid engine, though a plug-in hybrid version might be on the cards. It is likely to be offered with six-speed automatic and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission options, with all-wheel-drive variants also possible.

Kia India market position and roadmap

As per current monthly market data, Kia India ranks sixth in terms of market share. The Hyundai Motor Group company aims to reach a 7.6 percent market share in India by 2030, with sales of 4,10,000 cars per year. It also plans to grow its dealer network in India to 800 locations by then. Moreover, India is set to become a major manufacturing and export hub for the company’s global operations.

Kia India reported its highest-ever June sales this year, at 24,552 units, a 19 percent YoY increase. Its most popular model by far is the Seltos compact SUV. Aggregate sales for the first half of 2026 also set a company record, at 163,749 units, up 15.2 percent YoY.
