When launched, the Sealion 7 will be BYD’s most expensive model in India and will rival the iX1 L, Ioniq 5, EV6 and EX40.
The BYD is all set to launch the Sealion 7 in India tomorrow, its most expensive model in the country. The Sealion 7 will sit above the Seal in the brand’s line-up in India. Bookings for the Sealion 7 began on January 18, a day after it was showcased in India at the 2025 Auto Expo. The first 70 customers will get their cars from March 7 onwards.
As mentioned, the Sealion 7 will be the most premium model BYD offers in India so it will be priced accordingly. For perspective, the Seal is priced at ₹41 - 53 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Since the Sealion 7 will be positioned higher, expect it to start around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Once launched, BYD’s flagship SUV will rival the BMW iX1 L, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Volvo EX40.
The Sealion 7 is based on the BYD’s Ocean Series, being the second model in India based on this design language after the Seal. It measures 4830 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2930 mm, and has a width and height of 1925 mm and 1620 mm, respectively. It also has a 500-litre boot and a 48-litre frunk.
It gets two variants – Premium and Performance. The former has a single-motor, RWD setup with 308 bhp and 380 Nm on tap, while the latter gets a dual-motor, AWD setup with 523 bhp and 690 Nm. Both get an 82.56 kWh battery and while the Premium has a claimed range of 567 km of range, the Performance has a claimed range of 542 km.
The Sealion 7 gets a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster, powered front seats with ventilation, a panoramic glass roof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a ventilated wireless charging pad.
