AMD has unveiled two new devices ahead of the CES 2024, designed for automotive applications.

AMD announced today that it will showcase its automotive technology leadership at CES 2024, the world's largest consumer electronics show. The company has unveiled two new devices ahead of the CES 2024, the Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoC and the Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processor, designed for automotive applications, including infotainment, driver safety and autonomous driving.

The Versal AI Edge XA is equipped with a dedicated AI engine and is optimized for advanced automotive systems like cameras, LiDAR, radar, and autonomous driving functions. It is the first AMD 7nm device to receive an automotive qualification, bringing enhanced safety and security to critical automotive workloads.

With its dedicated AI Engine, the Versal AI Edge XA adaptive SoC is optimized for real-time AI tasks like sensor fusion and object detection.

The Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processors are the first x86 auto-qualified processor family to offer the same PC-like experience, which users can now enjoy in-vehicle on the go.

Powering the next generation of in-vehicle infotainment and digital instrument clusters, the V2000A is built on the "Zen 2" CPU architecture and Radeon Vega 7 graphics, promising high performance for multimedia and connectivity on the road.

AMD will demonstrate at CES 2024 the broad range of capabilities and applications for these new devices, including In-Vehicle Experience, AI Optimized Real-time Multi-sensor Object Detection, Automated Parking, Display Expansion, LiDAR, 3D Surround View, Driver Monitoring, and more.

The first automotive devices utilizing the new Versal and Ryzen Embedded processors will become available in early 2024, with more models to follow later in the year.

"In the future, automakers will leverage autonomous vehicle applications to shape their brand identities. With these applications relying heavily on artificial intelligence, automakers need compute platforms that deliver powerful and efficient AI compute," said James Hodgson, research director at ABI Research.

"With the Ryzen Embedded V2000A Series processor, ECARX looks forward to expanding the capabilities of our next-generation digital cockpit solutions for software-defined vehicles in 2024 and beyond", said Peter Cirino, Chief Operating Officer, ECARX.
