Android Auto will allow drivers to see their EV's real-time battery level in Google Maps.
Google has unveiled new Android Auto and vehicle features with integrated Google systems at CES 2024. One major update is electric vehicle integration with Google Maps.
Starting with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, EVs compatible with Android Auto will allow drivers to see their real-time battery level in Google Maps. It will provide battery estimates for trips and recommend charging stops along routes. It will also estimate charging times based on each vehicle's specifications. This addition should make long-distance trips easier to plan in EVs.
Additionally, cars with built-in Google systems can accept trip routes planned on Android or iOS devices. The drivers can seamlessly send planned Maps routes from their phones to the vehicle dashboard for turn-by-turn navigation.
Google also announced new in-car entertainment options. The Chrome browser is beginning a limited rollout to Polestar and Volvo models, with broader availability expected later this year. Streaming services like PBS Kids and Crunchyroll are also offered in select vehicles.
The Weather Channel app has also been launched for cars with built-in infotainment systems. It allows hands-free access to forecasts, radar maps and more. In addition, Digital car keys is rolling out for select Volvo cars and will soon support more Android devices, allowing you to lock and unlock your car from your smartphone.
Google continues working with automakers to expand the roster of helpful Android Auto and built-in services, with Nissan, Ford and Lincoln models rolling out this year. Google aims to enhance safety, convenience and passenger enjoyment for over 200 million vehicles currently on the road with Google built-in.
