Samsung has introduced its latest television technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas - the third-generation Quantum Dot OLED TV lineup, named SD95D. This new range is engineered to significantly reduce glare and reflections, a step forward from traditional anti-reflection coatings, through a specialized panel treatment.
The highlight of the SD95D is its 77” display, boasting frame rates that exceed 120Hz. This feature, along with a 20% increase in brightness compared to previous models, is complemented by AI-enhanced colour accuracy, recognized by Pantone for its precision.
“The S95D’s screen will captivate audiences with advanced, proprietary picture-quality engines that preserve perfect whites, deeper blacks, and accurate colors. In addition to being Samsung’s brightest OLED screen yet, it also features high refresh rates of up to 144Hz, so sports fans and gamers can enjoy seamless motion and crystal-clear action on their screens,” Samsung stated in their official press release.
Samsung is also making strides in MicroLED technology, showcasing a transparent glass display integrated with tiny MicroLED chips. This display uses a precision manufacturing process that aims to remove visible seams and reduce light refraction, making it suitable for both home and business applications.
The company announced the launch of its NQ8 AI Gen 3 model, which includes an upgraded Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that offers double the speed of its predecessor. This enhancement broadens the neural network capability from 64 to 512, facilitating advanced AI-based features like 8K AI upscaling pro and AI motion enhancer pro. These features are set to be incorporated in Samsung’s upcoming Neo OLED 8K and 4K models.
In addition, Samsung has updated its Tizen Operating System, now at the core of the Neo QLED 8K TVs. The system includes the new Samsung TV Plus user interface for the Home Screen, which curates content based on user preferences linked to their Samsung account. The launch also introduces a new gaming hub controller accessory, designed to support controllers for the platform.
The company's soundbar lineup has been expanded with the introduction of the 'Music Frame', which complements Samsung's Frame smart TVs. This soundbar offers a surround sound experience and functions as a standalone wireless speaker, designed to blend into the room's décor.
The HW-Q990D soundbar features an 11.1.4 channel configuration with Dolby Atmos support, capable of smart passthrough of 4K content at 120Hz. It incorporates AI to adapt the sound to the room's acoustics.
For those with space constraints, the HW-S800D ultra-thin soundbar, at just 1.6 inches deep, is an ideal choice. It includes 10 drivers, overhead speakers, a central channel for clear vocals, a deep bass subwoofer, and a passive radiator, offering a comprehensive sound experience in a compact design.
Post this event, Samsung will also be hosting its 2024 Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17 in San Jose for the launch of its new generative AI service and flagship smartphone -- the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
