Praggnanandhaa’s XUV400 gets a black-and-white checker pattern on the roof.
Months after suggesting that he would gift a Mahindra XUV400 to R Praggnanandhaa’s parents, Anand Mahindra has finally gifted the electric SUV to the Indian chess grandmaster’s family. Praggnanandhaa has received a white XUV400 from Mahindra.
Anand Mahindra has been known to gift Mahindra vehicles to athletes who have won accolades in various sporting events. Just last month, Mahindra offered to gift a Thar to Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan’s father, Naushad. Furthermore, Mahindra & Mahindra’s Chairman gifted a Thar each to six Indian cricketers in 2021 when the team won against Australia at the Gabba after more than 32 years. In 2023, Mahindra gifted a Thar to boxer Nikhat Zareen for winning the gold medal at the World’s Women Boxing Championship.
Praggnanandhaa shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, thanking Anand Mahindra. He added, “Received the XUV400, my Parents are very happy.”

The XUV400 received by Praggnanandhaa is a unique version of the XUV400. Pratap Bose, Design Head, Mahindra and Mahindra, stayed true to his word and gave the XUV400 a checkered pattern on the roof, resembling a chess board. Apart from that, Praggnanandhaa’s XUV400 looks very standard as it gets regular copper accents.
Mahindra originally launched the XUV400 in India in January 2023 and a year later, rolled out an update for the EV – XUV400 Pro – that gave it new features and a slightly updated interior. It now gets a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control and more. The XUV400 gets two battery packs – 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh – and offers a claimed range of up to 375 km and 456 km, respectively, on a single charge.
