The Citroën Basalt has already been showcased and will launch in India later this year.
After its global debut earlier last month, Citroën India is now preparing for the launch of its coupe SUV, the Basalt. As part of that preparation, the brand has been undertaking regular on-road tests, and we recently spotted another test mule of the coupe SUV on the roads of Pune. Based on the same C-cubed programme, the Basalt will be the fourth Citroën model in India from the same line which the C3, eC3, and the C3 Aircross SUV precede.
While details about the Basalt are still under wraps. The global debut had already showcased its exterior design and the same was visible with the test mule. Although fully camouflaged, the sloping roofline and the butch, yet sleek, front fascia, and the Citroen badge on the steering wheel give away the fact that this is the Basalt coupe SUV.
And while the interior hasn’t been revealed yet, the Citroën Basalt’s cabin is likely to come fitted with a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, and a larger infotainment screen that will support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, it will also most likely come with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse camera, ISOFIX seats, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Mechanically, the upcoming Citroën Basalt SUV will most likely be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that is also available with the C3 Aircross. This mill dishes out 110 bhp and 205 Nm and comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The upcoming Citroën Basalt SUV will rival the Tata Currvv, which is also slated for launch later this year. Additionally, the likes of Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, and Hyundai Verna will also act as its rivals.
