Nothing announced the creation of a new, more affordable brand called CMF by Nothing.
Last month, tech company Nothing announced the creation of a new, more affordable brand called CMF by Nothing. Now, it's confirmed that the brand will officially debut in India on 26th September. Shortly after the initial announcement, the brand registered a smartwatch and a pair of budget-friendly True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds, hinting at a diversified product range.
Manu Sharma, Vice President and General Manager for Nothing in India, revealed that the launch will include a charger, TWS earbuds, and a smartwatch. Posting on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter, Sharma emphasised the brand's focus on design with the phrase "wonderful by design." This suggests that while CMF aims to be affordable, it won't compromise on aesthetics—a departure from Nothing's original mission to be the 'iPhone of Android.'
Interestingly, the new brand is expected to feature bold colour options, a shift from Nothing's traditionally monochrome products. This comes as a surprise, especially since Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, recently criticised the value proposition of smartwatches.
As of now, it's unclear whether CMF by Nothing will expand globally, as certification has so far only been obtained for the Indian market. It's likely that the products will also be manufactured in India. The brand has garnered significant attention in the country, with numerous Indian celebrities, YouTubers, and podcasters investing in it. Despite this local focus, the company operates out of the UK and is led by Carl Pei, who is part Swedish and part Chinese.
In summary, CMF by Nothing is gearing up for its Indian launch with a range of products that aim to balance affordability with design, a strategy that could set it apart in a competitive market.
