Kolkata Royal Tigers is a racing team which will compete in the upcoming season of IRL
Former Indian cricket captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has surprised fans by venturing into the world of motorsport. Ganguly is now the owner of the Kolkata Royal Tigers racing team, set to compete in the upcoming season of the Indian Racing League (IRL).
The third season of IRL promises high-octane action with eight city-based teams, including the debuting Kolkata Royal Tigers. The league, featuring championships like the Indian Racing League and the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC), will run from August to November this year.
The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) features two main events: the Indian Racing League (IRL) and the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC). The IRL is sanctioned by India's racing governing body (FMSCI). It is the country's premier racing league, where six city-based teams battle it out for the championship title in a unique, gender-neutral format.
Meanwhile, the FIA-backed F4IC serves as a launchpad for young drivers, giving them a chance to compete on home soil and gain valuable Super License points. This championship acts as a crucial first step for aspiring racers, pushing them on their journey towards professional motorsport racing.
Ganguly's association with the Kolkata Royal Tigers is a major boost for the IRL. Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of RPPL, the league's organiser, hailed Ganguly's leadership and cricketing legacy, stating his belief that Ganguly's influence will "inspire a new generation of motorsport enthusiasts across India."
Expressing his enthusiasm for the association, Sourav Ganguly said "I am truly excited to embark on this journey with the Kolkata team in the Indian Racing Festival. Motorsports has always been a passion of mine and this opportunity not only allows me to contribute to the growth of motorsport in Kolkata but also aligns with my belief in fostering a culture of excellence and sportsmanship. Together with the Kolkata Royal Tigers, we aim to build a strong legacy in the Indian Racing Festival and inspire a new generation of motorsport enthusiasts, making the Kolkata Royal Tigers a formidable force in the Festival"
