This change in fee has happened in the state for the first time in 13 years.
The Delhi Government has revised the cost rate of obtaining a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate for all vehicles (both private and commercial) in the capital for the first time in 13 years. As per the new circulation, charges have increased by 40 per cent uniformly across all segments.
Thankfully, though, prices are still not obscurely high. If you own a petrol, CNG, or LPG-powered two- or three-wheeler, then the cost to obtain a PUC will now be ₹80, up from ₹40 before. For petrol and CNG-powered four-wheelers and above, the fee is set at ₹110, and for diesel vehicles, the price is now ₹140, up from ₹70 and ₹100, respectively.
The Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, says that every motor vehicle, including those that conform to BS-VI, BS-III, BS-II, and BS-IV emission norms is required to carry a valid certificate after one year passes from the date of registration. If failed to do so, one runs the risk of attracting a fine of ₹10,000.
The decision to increase the PUC certificate comes in response to the long-pending demands of the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association. It is one of those steps that might help keep the pollution under check. Coupled with the extreme heatwave that has been causing quite the havoc, it has become all the more essential to curb the problem of pollution. The decision to increase PUC registration comes in addition to the ban on cars more than fifteen-years from plying in the city, and hopefully, it should help curb the problem a bit more efficiently.
