Perhaps one of F1’s most prolific racing champions and one of its lost heroes who lost his life doing what he loved, Ayrton Senna was a man who brought the Brazilian flair to motor racing. But besides scorching F1 tracks with his unique and aggressive driving style, Senna was also quite a big motorcyclist and a particular lover of Italian machines like Ducati and MV Agusta. The Bolognese motorcycling icon has decided to pay tribute to the late F1 great with a limited edition of the Monster called the Ducati Monster Senna.
A limited run of 341 units of the Monster Senna will be made. Ducati gave it a bit of thought to the number of units as Senna won 3 F1 world driver’s championships and won 41 F1 Grand Prix in his career. The unveiling of the bike took place right before the Formula 1 MSC Cruises Gran Premio Del Made In Italy E Dell'emilia-Romagna 2024, or simply put the Imola GP, the same track where Senna lost his life in a tragic accident exactly 30 years ago.
Being a special Monster, it gets a custom livery that replicates Senna’s racing helmet colours of yellow, green and blue (the colour of the Brazilian flag). The tank adorns Senna’s famous “Racing Is In My Blood” quote as well with the lovely samba look to the whole bike. In fact, the blue seat with Senna S embossed on it contrasts well with the yellow pillion seat cowl. Even the Brembo Stylema calipers are finished in yellow.
Additionally, the forged aluminium wheels bear a stripe of the Brazilian’s colours. Not only are the wheels contributing to the marginal weight saving but also is the inclusion of a lithium-ion battery and the use of carbon fibre from both mudguards.
Ducati hasn’t tweaked the 937 cc Testastretta 11° engine much, pushing out the same 111 horses and 93 Nm. But this being a special bike, Italian exhaust system specialists Termignoni has been called upon to provide a road-homologated end can for the same.
Finally, the suspension has been upgraded from the Monster SP to the top-spec components that one can source from Ohlins. Hence, the NIX30 USD fork, steering damper and monoshock find their way on to this Monster Senna.
Now, each one of these Monster Sennas will have a plate with the production number on it, a certificate of authenticity, a special start-up animation and bike cover.
This collaboration continues the long-standing love between Senna and Ducati. This special Monster continues the lineage of the two’s association which began with the 916 Senna shortly after his demise and the 1199 Panigale Senna (for solely the Brazilian market) being one of the most prominent ones. Thus, the Monster Senna is a befitting tribute to the icon’s 30th death anniversary. Senna Sempre.
