Is electric the future of dirt biking?
QJ Motor unveiled two electric dirt bikes at EICMA 2023, the OWO and Q2. The OWO has a 5 kW motor, 100 kmph top speed, and weighs 135 kg. Its specs include a 72V, 60Ah battery, inverted front fork, monoshock, 21-inch front, and 18-inch rear wheels.
The Q2, which is a dirt bike-mountain bike hybrid, features a 3,000W motor, 45 kmph top speed, and weighs 66 kg. It comes with a 60V, 32Ah battery, 19-inch wheels, telescopic fork, linkage-type monoshock, and hydraulic disc brakes.
QJ Motor introduces the OWO at EICMA. The bike has angular bodywork like that of a gas-powered enduro bike. It features a mid-mounted electric motor, producing 5 kW, equivalent to 6.7 bhp, similar to a small 50 cc off-roader.
The OWO has instantaneous torque, a common trait in electric motors. Despite its 6.7 bhp, the bike is expected to feel more potent in real off-road situations. QJ Motor claims a top speed of 100 kmph, which is very impressive and that’s more to do with its lightweight construction.
The OWO is equipped with a 72-volt, 60A battery pack, providing extended off-road enjoyment on a single charge. The bike has an inverted front fork at front and a monoshock with preload adjustability at the rear. It has a typical 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, along with front and rear disc brakes, the OWO offers a seat height of 895 mm and a lightweight build at 135 kg ensuring a compelling off-road package.
The Q2 features geometry like that of the mountain bicycles. It is powered by an air-cooled electric motor generating 3,000 watts. Despite its top speed of 45 kmph, the Q2 offers a fun and approachable off-road option. A 60-volt, 32A battery pack provides a range of approximately 120 km on a single charge.
The Q2 rides on 19-inch wheels with a standard telescopic fork at the front and a linkage-type monoshock at the rear. Hydraulic disc brakes are expected to provide stopping power that is required. The bike's features include a comfortable seat height of 815 mm and a lightweight construction weighing 66 kg. This design seems functional to riders of all sizes.
