Hints at a light adventure offering like the erstwhile Bajaj Pulsar AS150

Bajaj Auto has pushed our curiosity buttons with the recent trademark filing for the name "Bajaj Fighter." This suggests the Indian manufacturer is setting its sights on the growing adventure bike segment. The "Bajaj Fighter" moniker perfectly embodies the ruggedness and power typically associated with adventure motorcycles. Bajaj already has the Boxer on sale in African markets and the new Bajaj Fighter could be a more rugged version of the same.

While details about the "Bajaj Fighter" are scarce, this trademark filing comes on the heels of a significant sighting. A Bajaj test mule spotted running on the Gujarat highway earlier this year. Read more about it here. This seemed like a prototype for an upcoming light adventure bike. We expected that to fit right in the light adventure bike attempt that Bajaj had done previously with the Pulsar AS150. This one had a muscular fuel tank with extensions, a tall riding stance, and a comfortable two-piece seat.

This potential revival of the AS series for the Indian market aligns with Bajaj's recent focus on "super-segmentation," a strategy mentioned by Rajiv Bajaj during the Pulsar NS400Z launch interview. Engine specifications remain under wraps, but certain components on the engine lead us towards the possibility of Bajaj borrowing from the proven Pulsar N150. This will reduce R&D spends and time, thereby ensuring that the pricing isn’t too high, the same strategy was applied on the Pulsar NS400Z.

This engine choice could also cater to international markets, potentially finding a place in the Boxer lineup offered in African countries. The current Boxer range includes 100cc and 150cc options, and follow a similar approach as the Bajaj CT125X. This strategy involves equipping existing motorcycles with adventure-ready features like fork boots, raised fenders, and handguards. This keeps costs low while offering a visually appealing product and market trend based products for budget-conscious customers.

With the Bajaj Fighter it could take it one notch up and offer people a bike that could be a light offroader from ground up. The arrival of a Bajaj Fighter adventure bike is not yet confirmed, but it certainly is a product to look forward to.
