The more compact BMW R 1300 GS will command a premium price over the outgoing R 1250 GS.
The BMW R 1300GS is all set to make its official debut in India. BMW Motorrad dealers have confirmed that the flagship adventure motorcycle will launch in May 2024 and deliveries will start from June-July onwards. Unofficial bookings have already commenced. The unofficial booking amount ranges from ₹50,000-₹1,00,000 for the upcoming BMW R 1300 GS.
The R 1300 GS pulls off a completely new look without deviating much from that iconic GS silhouette. For starters, the BMW R 1300 GS looks compact and thereby slightly smaller than the hefty-looking R 1250 GS. This partly boils down to the compact architecture of the engine as well as the bike’s frame. The R 1300 GS is also lighter, courtesy of the new sheet material used to make the mainframe, and die-cast aluminum subframe. The front fascia is completely different. Gone are the asymmetrical headlight design as seen on the R 1250 GS, instead there’s a new X-shaped LED set-up. The distinct beak design continues with a slightly heavier stance and the tail section has become sleeker than before.
The flagship BMW adventure bike is powered by a new 1300 cc, twin-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine that produces 145 bhp at 7750 rpm and 149 Nm at 6500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Despite the increase in displacement, BMW claims that the engine has a more compact architecture than the outgoing R 1250 GS. They managed to achieve this by slotting the gearbox underneath the engine.
Loaded to the gills would be an understatement. The BMW R 1300 GS will continue to feature the sophisticated, yet robust, ‘telelever’ front suspension and ‘paralever’ rear suspension. Further making it more versatile are electronic rider aids like multi-level traction control, ride modes, ABS, etc. The BMW R 1300 GS will also be available with radar-based assistance with features like adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, lane changing warning, and more.
BMW Motorrad dealers have quoted that R 1300 GS will cost ₹2-3 lakh more than the outgoing R 1250 GS’ ₹21 lakh ex-showroom price. Moreover, it is also slated to be available in different variants including R 1300 GS, R 1300 GS Trophy, Triple Black, and Option 719 Tramutana. They will differ based on colour options and features. As for its competition, the R 1300 GS will go head-on against the Ducati Multistrada V4, Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250, and the Triumph Tiger 1200.
