F1 Legend Michael Schumacher Makes First Public Appearance In 11 Years: Reports

Michael Schumacher has made his first public appearance, as per new reports. This is the first time the Formula 1 (F1) legend has been seen in public after his life-altering brain injury during a skiing accident in 2013. Schumacher was seen at his daughter's wedding at the family villa in Mallorca, Spain. 

The seven-time F1 world champion has never been seen in public ever since his accident which happened a year after his retirement from the sport. He has been leading a private life ever since and only interacts with a handful of family members and medical staff. 

According to a report by the Metro from the UK, the wedding of his daughter Gina-Maria was a closely guarded affair. Guests were required to deposit their phones to avoid any pictures from the event being leaked. Schumacher had reportedly interacted with family and friends at the wedding. 

German newspaper Bild reported that it was “quite possible” and “even very likely” that Schumacher was present to bless the union of his daughter with Iain Bethke. However, he was reportedly not present in the garden where the festivities took place. 

Schumacher’s lawyer, Felix Damm, told German media outlet LTO, “It was always about protecting private things. We considered whether a final report about Michael’s health could be the right way to do this,” explaining the family’s privacy regarding Schumacher’s health. He added, “But that wouldn’t have been the end of it and there would have had to be constantly updated ‘water level reports’ and it would not have been up to the family when the media interest in the story stopped.”
