Ferrari will build all its models under one roof including its upcoming all-electric model.

Ferrari has a new production facility which it calls the e-building. The Italian marque will build its internal combustion engine models, hybrid models and its upcoming electric model at the new facility in Maranello, Italy. The new facility lies north of the existing Ferrari campus in Maranello.

The new 42,500 square metre facility will have four levels dedicated to general systems, logistics, office spaces as well as vehicle and engine assembly. Ferrari says that the integration of production of its entire range will allow it to reorganise and reallocate all production activities and quickly adapt to production needs. The facility will also have the ability to produce strategic electrical components such as high-voltage batteries, electric motors and axles.

One of the power sources of the new e-building includes solar power with more than 3,000 solar panels installed on the roof to produce 1.3 MW of electricity. It has also used various technologies to reuse energy and rainwater and said more than 60 per cent of the energy used for battery and motor testing will be recovered through accumulators and redirected for reuse.

Ferrari has also redesigned the road infrastructure in and around the facility so that the movement of heavy traffic is concentrated near the logistics hub. The brand says this will ensure the traffic stays away from the pedestrian routes. Furthermore, the new facility will have parking for 1,400 vehicles which Ferrari says will reduce the burden of public parking on its employees.

The e-building has been designed by Mario Cucinella Architects. The building is rectangular and is 25 metres high. The components of the facade employ the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) ethos. Ferrari claims this helped it save costs and also reduces the impact on the environment due to the materials and processes used.
