The X-Trail moniker returns to India after a hiatus of 10 years and skipping a generation.
Nissan has unveiled the fourth-generation X-Trail in India. Prices for the full-size SUV will be announced later this month. The X-Trail makes a comeback in India after a hiatus of 10 years and skipping a generation.
The fourth-gen Nissan X-Trail will come to India as a completely built unit (CBU), allowing the Japanese manufacturer to sell up to 2,500 units in India without the need for homologating the SUV.
The new X-Trail will sport a large grille with a massive Nissan logo in the centre. Flanking the grille are the spilt headlamps with inverted L-shaped DRLs on the top. The fourth-gen SUV rides on 20-inch wheels and gets lots of chrome embellishments around the windows and at the bottom of the doors. At the rear, it will have wraparound taillamps, a silver faux skid plate as well as a tailgate-mounted number plate. The tailgate also has a big Nissan logo and X-Trail lettering, right below the rear windscreen.
Inside, the new X-Trail will get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with physical controls, a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, a wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, an electronic parking brake, a button for the drive mode selector and a stubby gear selector. Furthermore, the India-spec X-Trail is offered only with a seven-seat configuration, while the international model also gets a five-seat configuration. Safety features on the X-Trail include 7-airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, three-point seatbelts with reminders and more.
Powering the X-Trail will be a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with 12V mild-hybrid assist i.e. good for a total output of 161 bhp and 300 Nm. It will power the front wheel via a CVT automatic gearbox. Globally, the X-Trail also gets hybrid and all-wheel drive configurations.
The fourth-gen X-Trail is expected to be priced between ₹35 - 45 lakh. It will rival the Skoda Kodiaq (₹39.99 lakh), MG Gloster (₹38.80 - 43.16 lakh), Toyota Fortuner (₹35.93 - 51.44 lakh), Jeep Meridian (₹33.77 - 39.83 lakh) and Volkswagen Tiguan (₹35.16 lakh). (All prices ex-showroom, India).
