Google Wallet lets users digitally store important documents like boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, etc.
Google announced the launch of its Google Wallet app in India today. The app lets users digitally store important documents like boarding passes, loyalty cards, event tickets, etc.
The Google Wallet app, now available for download on the Google Play Store, is designed to facilitate fast and secure access to everyday essentials. It offers a centralized place for Indian users to conveniently add and retrieve digital documents without toggling between multiple apps or emails.
At launch, Google partnered with over 20 major brands in India to enable support within the Wallet app. It includes partnerships with cinema chains PVR and INOX to add movie tickets, airlines like Air India and Indigo, and travel portals like MakeMyTrip to store mobile boarding passes.
Other partners include Flipkart, Pine Labs, and loyalty program providers for redeeming digital gifts and loyalty cards. Metro services like Kochi Metro and Hyderabad Metro have also partnered to allow transit cards to be stored in Wallet.
In addition, the app allows users to digitize physical documents like boarding passes, parking receipts and luggage tags by scanning their QR codes or barcodes. The Wallet can also store corporate badges from integrators like Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise.
Unlike other markets, Google Wallet and Google Pay will work independently in India. While Wallet offers the new digital document features, Google Pay will continue handling UPI payments and contactless payments using bank cards.
