Harley-Davidson is shifting the production of its Revolution Max engine platform from Thailand back to its factories in the United States.
Harley-Davidson has announced that it is bringing the production of its liquid-cooled Revolution Max engine platform back to the United States. The strategic shift marks a partial reversal of the company's previous offshoring initiatives, which had seen components manufactured in Thailand, drawing criticism from labor unions and political figures alike.
The relocation of manufacturing operations is a central component of the new ‘Back to the Bricks’ turnaround strategy orchestrated by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Artie Starrs.
Under this plan, production and assembly of the 1,250 cc V-twin powertrain will transition from Thailand to the domestic facilities of the manufacturer in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The domestic manufacturing process will encompass critical operations including precision machining, powertrain assembly, painting, and final vehicle assembly, a move expected to support numerous American manufacturing and union roles.

The Revolution Max architecture currently serves as the powerplant for a core group of modern Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including the Pan America adventure touring bike, the Sportster S, and the Nightster. The platform was also recently showcased in a well-received cafe racer concept vehicle, which is heavily rumoured to be heading toward production.
According to the timeline outlined by the company, the physical transfer of manufacturing equipment will begin later this year and conclude by mid-2027. The first American-assembled engines are scheduled to reach dealership networks as part of the 2028 model year line-up.
