Hero has just filed the name and it is still pending trademark approval.
The 400-450 cc scrambler segment is set to become all the more exciting for now Hero will enter this space. The Indian manufacturer has filed a trademark for the name ‘Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler’. While the status of the trademark is listed as ‘Marked For Exam’ – it indicates that the name is still up for examination before it gets trademarked permanently.
Being a scrambler, we expect the upcoming Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler to boast of the same neo-retro roadster styling but with a subtle off-road outlook. It will be built on the same platform that underpins the Mavrick 440 and Harley-Davidson X440. To better suit its off-road aspirations, itmight be suspended on telescopic fork and monoshock absorber with longer travel than the existing bikes. As a result, ground clearance might also go up in the process and other additions could be 19/17-inch wheels with off-road centric tyres.
Mechanically, the upcoming Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler is most likely to continue unchanged with the same 27 bhp/ 36 Nm output. For this 440 cc engine in the Mavrick is already quite torquey where 90 per cent of peak torque is produced at 2,000 rpm, which makes it ideal for scrambling.
Along with that, the same set of features – from all-LED headlight and tail light to the full-digital LCD instrument console with smartphone connectivity— are likely to be available with the Mavrick 440 Scrambler as well.
While we are yet to spot a test mule of the Hero Mavrick 440 Scrambler in the real world. The fact that the name is up for trademark we are pretty confident that the test mule is already ready. Given the additions made to the motorcycle, the Hero scrambler could be priced between ₹2.25 lakh and ₹2.45 lakh. As for its launch timing, the Mavrick 440 Scrambler will most likely debut by the end of this year and it will primarily compete against the Triumph Scrambler 400X and the Yezdi Scrambler.
