With the Vida XV2 performing exceptionally well and keeping in mind the portfolio expansion, the above is a crucial deal for the brand.
Hero MotoCorp’s electric offering, Vida, has had a rather interesting journey in the Indian EV space. The Vida VX1 failed to meet the expectations of the consumers and despite being the only scooter to offer removable batteries, the high pricing, and poor numbers made sure that it wasn’t a commercial success. However, Hero MotoCorp turned the tides with the Vida VX2, the new scooter was much improved, came with a competitive price tag and Vida dealerships had expanded across the country.
The result of the above has been simple - huge success. The Vida VX2 sales have boomed and the scooter has been registering massive sales growth on a month-on-month basis. In fact, the Vida VX2 is the fourth-best selling electric two-wheeler in the country. Owing to the sales demand, Hero MotoCorp has plans to expand plant capacity at its Sri City manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. It’s reported that the company has plans to increase its production capacity to 6.6 lakh units by 2027. In FY26, the company produced 1.48 lakh units and it plans to end FY27 with a manufacturing capacity of 2.80 lakh units.
The above capacity expansion is a key decision for Hero as the electric business has not only witnessed a major jump in sales, but it's also looked upon as a major growth sector for the overall business of the brand. With the Vida portfolio expected to be expanded further, the need for capacity is a must for the brand as it inches closer to Ather Energy, to break into the top 3 EV brands in the Indian two-wheeler market.
