The largest two-wheeler brand in India is still at top as Honda closes the gap.
We recently reported that Honda managed to overtake Hero MotoCorp in the July 2024 sales by a massive margin of 1,12,826 units. However, the recent report from FADA (Federation Of Automobile Dealers Associations) gives us a different perspective. The FADA figures mention the actual retail sales, and according to this report, Hero MotoCorp has maintained its domination in the Indian two-wheeler space.
OEMs | Retail - July'24 |
Hero MotoCorp | 3,94,902 |
Honda | 3,68,409 |
TVS | 2,31,492 |
Bajaj | 1,43,330 |
Suzuki | 79,881 |
Royal Enfield | 57,430 |
Yamaha | 54,514 |
Hero sold 3,94,902 units in July 2024 whereas Honda managed to retail 3,68,409 units. Thus Hero managed to outsell the Japanese giant by almost 26,500 units. The SIAM data shared overall production by each manufacturer, including exports and in that case Honda had the upper hand over Hero last month.

But then again one will have to see whether Honda can sustain that momentum across this FY to actually displace Hero from the top. With respect to retail sales in the first quarter, Hero MotoCorp is easily on top of the charts in the first quarter of 2024. The largest two-wheeler brand in the country clocked 13,47,452 unit sales in Q1 FY25 thereby outselling Honda by a massive margin of 2,10,865 units. Hero MotoCorp has a bunch of launches lined up and the next new product could be the Hero Destini 125 Xtec. Apart from this, Hero also had showcased the Xoom 125R and the Xoom 160 concept at CIT earlier this year.
