The first "class-shifting" vehicle is ready for India but Indian roads might not be ready for it yet
Hero showcased the Surge S32 which is a versatile workhorse that adapts into a cargo carrier by day and a scooter whenever required. It is designed to cater to the dynamic needs of self-employed individuals. Hero Surge S32 combines the convenience of an electric scooter with the utility of a three-wheel electric rickshaw.

The three-wheeler part of the Hero Surge 32 features a sturdy 13.4 bhp power output, whereas the two-wheeler part has 4 bhp, with their respective battery capacities being 11 kWh and 3.5 kWh. The top speed differs, with the three-wheeler reaching 50 kmph and the two-wheeler achieving 60 kmph.

The scooter is at the core of both the vehicles in the Hero Surge S32. It is equipped with LED headlights, indicators, and its own instrumentation and switchgear. This same is used when it is connected to the shell of the 3 wheeler. The connection is via one physical wire which is connected near the key slot of the scooter.

The transformation can occur in as little as three minutes. It happens with one press of a button but is not a one-person job, requiring assistance to take the scooter out from the shell.

The three-wheeler features a front passenger cabin with a windscreen, lighting, and potential weather-protective soft doors. When connected, the scooter seamlessly conceals with the shell of the three-wheeler.
This innovative modular Hero Surge S32 breaks new ground as the first 'class-shifting' vehicle on the Indian market. The Hero Surge S32 design allows owners to have a commercial vehicle which also includes a more presentable mode of transportation for personal use. While Hero states that the S32 can go into production soon, our homologation laws of the land need to be set up for such a vehicle. And hence, the timeline for such a product is still up in the air.
