These are part of Honda’s ambitious plan to launch 30 new scooters by 2030.
Honda has introduced two new electric commuter scooters namely, the CUV e: and the Icon e:. Wherein the former will be available with swappable batteries, and latter will get a fixed battery. Eitherway, both will be manufactured for and in Indonesia at the moment, and will later on expand into global markets as well.
The CUV e: is a 110 cc-equivalent electric scooter that utilises two Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable batteries. While Honda has not revealed the specifics of the battery packs, it will have three ride modes - Standard, Sport, and Econ – and a reverse mode.
Top-spec variants of the Honda CUV e: will also feature Honda RoadSync Duo for smartphone connectivity, which will enhance the rider experience through features like navigation and call/SMS alert. As for its aesthetics, the Honda CUV e: boasts a sleek and clean body design that is distinctive of all EVs. In fact, this body design reminds us of the Honda EM1 e:, that the Japanese marque had showcased earlier.
Complementing the CUV e: is the Icon e:, which comes equipped with a fixed lithium-ion battery. This model, equivalent to a Class 1 moped, boasts a range exceeding 50 km per charge and employs a compact in-wheel motor for efficient power delivery. Design-wise, the Icon e: combines practicality with modern design, with a large enough under-seat storage capacity to accommodate a full-face helmet. Additional luggage compartments and a USB charging port are its other key highlights. The fully digital dashboard is an LCD unit that essential information like speed, battery level, and time are displayed in a very simple layout.
The launch of the Honda CUV e: and the Icon e: represent the 10th and 11th electric scooters as part of Honda's ambitious plan to introduce 30 electric models globally by 2030. And while the brand has been busy expanding its electric portfolio in foreign markets, in Inda, Honda is also gearing up to launch its first electric scooter. Touted to be the electric iteration of its most popular badge, the Activa. Honda has already established a separate production line for the upcoming model, and while details about the scooter are still under wraps, we expect the scooter will launch in the country soon, most probably by the end of this year.
