It is unlikely that Honda will bring this sporty scooter to our shores, though
Honda has filed a design patent of its NX125 sporty scooter in the country, which has delighted enthusiasts. The 125 cc scooter was introduced in China and it could be a very strong rival to the likes of the TVS NTorq 125 and the Yamaha RayZR 125.
However, Honda’s past track record with such activities have not been materialised into new products. We have seen countless design patent filings from the Japanese manufacturer, like the Snoopy or the Gremio 160, that are never likely to see the light of day in India. The main reason that Honda does file the patent is to protect its IP and prohibit others (like the China-sourced rebadged e-scooter players) to bring out something that looks identical.
The NX125 uses a 125 cc single-cylinder air-cooled mill that puts out close to 8 horses and 9.7 Nm, which is on par with certain 110 cc scooters available in the Indian market. The likes of the NTorq 125 and RayZR 125 are certainly more powerful. Also, Honda’s current sporty offering – the Dio 125 – boasts of a far more exciting ride.
All is not doom and gloom, though. Honda is readying the Activa Electric for a launch by the end of the year and that could prove to be a big game changer for the Indian electric scooter space.
