Hyundai utilised rail freight for 100 per cent of its vehicle dispatches to the North-East region.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has achieved a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts. In calendar year (CY) 2024, the company transported 26 per cent of its total domestic wholesale volumes via rail freight, amounting to 1,56,724 units. This strategic shift from road to rail logistics has resulted in a substantial environmental benefit, preventing 18,352 tons of CO2 emissions. HMIL utilised rail freight for 100 per cent of its vehicle dispatches to the North-East region, leveraging Indian Railways' extensive network for eco-friendly transportation.
Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and COO– Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “As the Government of India continues to upgrade the rail infrastructure with dedicated freight corridors and modern & energy-efficient rolling stock, ensuring faster movement of goods, HMIL remains committed to utilizing rail freight to optimise its logistic operations, leading to a long-term reduction in emissions.”
Over the past four years (CY 2021-2024), HMIL has dispatched 5,37,499 units via rail, effectively preventing 63,452 tons of CO2 emissions. This initiative underscores HMIL’s alignment with the Indian government’s push towards sustainable logistics practices and demonstrates its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint while meeting growing market demands.
