The Exter will be the first Micro SUV from Hyundai in India
Hyundai Motor India has commenced the production of the Exter Micro SUV at the company's Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai. The Exter is the company's first Micro SUV and will be positioned below the Venue subcompact SUV. The need to bring in a car in this segment comes from the big demand Tata Motors has seen for the Punch in the country and yes, Hyundai will take aim at the Tata Punch when it is launched in the country on July 10, 2023.
Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “ With the Hyundai EXTER we are venturing into a new segment that further enhances HMIL’s position as a full range SUV manufacturer.”
The Hyundai Exter will be made available with 2 engine options and 3 gearbox options. There will be the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine which will be mated to a 5-speed manual and a automated manual transmission. Hyundai will also introduce in the Exter a 1.2-litre Bi-fuel Kappa petrol with CNG engine equipped with 5-speed Manual transmission. There is no turbo petrol unit on offer.
The Hyundai Exter will come with an 8-inch touchscreen at the centre along with a 4.2-inch fully digital driver’s display. This display will show information such as the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) available on the top-spec, along with an electric sunroof and OTA updates, offered only with the higher-spec models. Moreover, the Hyundai Exter will also come with in-built navigation and smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but this will not be standard in the lower trims. Moreover, the Exter will also come with cruise control.
Moreover, the Hyundai Exter also comes with H2C (Home to Car) Alexa in Hindi and English, infotainment with multi-language UI support (10 regional and 2 international languages), and ambient sounds of nature, identical to the Hyundai Creta, and even the Hyundai Verna as well as the Hyundai Venue.
On the safety front, 6 airbags will be offered as standard on the Exter .
