August 2026 Auto Sales: Hyundai India Registers 8.8% YoY Growth as Exports Decline

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has reported its highest-ever August month domestic sales, with a total of 54,396 units sold in the country, representing 23.6 percent growth over the same month last year. Balancing that out, 11,400 units were exported, down from 16,500 units in August 2025.

Overall sales last month amounted to 65,796 units which is still an average growth of 8.8% YoY. A likely reason for the decline in exports is the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has affected global production, supply chains, and shipping operations.

Overall, the company says its diverse product range is continuing to attract buyers in India in large numbers. Domestic sales over the first five months of the current financial year have grown by 12.6 percent, compared to the same period last year.

The company has announced plans to launch several new and updated car models over the next few months, starting with a mass-market electric SUV, which could further boost its sales as the festive buying season commences. Hyundai slipped from its number-two position in market share in August last year, and has since been working on a strategy to reclaim it.

Our August domestic sales of 54,396 units (+23.6% YoY), the highest-ever figure for any August month, reflect the popularity of Hyundai’s versatile product portfolio. While total exports in August were impacted by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the broader geo-political environment during the month, we remain optimistic that export demand will continue to be strong in the coming months as the geo-political situation improves.”
