Hyundai aims to establish 100 more such fast EV chargers through out the state of Tamil Nadu.
Hyundai Motor India has established its first 180 kW DC fast public EV charger in Chennai at the Spencer Plaza Mall in Anna Salai, Thousand Lights, Chennai. This is the first of 100 such public EV chargers that the company will establish in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Open to all EV car owners, the charging station gets two charging connectors – 150 kW and 30 kW. Customers can access them via the brand’s ‘myHyundai’ app. Everything, from making payments to pre-booking slots, or remote charging status – can be functioned via the app. Hyundai has also mapped the locations of 170 other fast charging stations available in Tamil Nadu to its app, thus making it open and accessible for more charging station service providers as well.

The establishment of this new EV charging station is part of the ₹6,180 crore investment that Hyundai announced last year. It was made in addition to the initial ₹20,000 crore it promised to the state over ten years (2023-2032). These investments will be for several initiatives, including establishing a hydrogen resource centre, alongside the manufacturing of EVs, and establishing charging infrastructure and skill development.
Speaking on the occasion of the installation of the first fast charging station from Hyundai in Chenna, Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director, Corporate Planning, HMIL, said, “In line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, we aim to enhance convenience of all EV users, and hence our charging stations can be utilized by any four-wheeler EV user. HMIL envisages installing 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu, to enhance the EV ecosystem and motivate more customers towards EV adoption across the state.
