Hyundai has dropped the covers off the new Ioniq V at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show, previewing an all-new EV for the globe. The new Hyundai Ioniq V is exclusively for China, and is part of the 20 new models the carmaker plans to launch in the world’s largest auto market over the next five years. The Ioniq V is a new-age electric sedan and is the production version of the Venus concept showcased just a few weeks ago.

The Hyundai Ioniq V is the first dedicated ‘Ioniq’ model for China, and has little to do with the Ioniq 5, sold globally. The electric sedan measures 4,900 mm in length with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, and 1,890 mm in width. That’s about as large as the Hyundai Sonata. The styling though, sets it apart from anything we’ve seen from the brand so far. The angular design gives it nearly flat surfaces all over. The angled bonnet and roofline extend into a wedge-shaped rear, almost like a fast-back. Most of the cues from the Venus concept have been retained, and Hyundai calls this design language “The Origin.”

The cabin comes with a host of tech, as you’d expect in a China-specific offering. This includes a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display, which extends to the front passenger side. There’s a head-up display instead of a conventional digital cluster, while you also get ambient lighting, 8 speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a large language model (LLM)-based Smart AI Assistant.

Hyundai is tight-lipped about the specifications on the Ioniq V but the automaker says the long range variant will provide in excess of 600 km on a single charge. The automaker also says the suspension has been optimised for comfort and stability across different road conditions, while the road and wind noise has been reduced for a quieter cabin. The Ioniq V will be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, reinforced body structure, as well as nine airbags for enhanced safety.

Hyundai aims to sell 500,000 cars in China once it rolls out the new 20 models over the next five years. The Ioniq V will hit the market by the first half of 2027, followed by the production version of the Earth concept unveiled earlier this month. While BEVs are certainly part of the plan, the automaker will have EVs with range-extenders added to its China lineup.
