Hyundai Mobis opens a dedicated software R&D centre in Bengaluru focusing on infotainment. The company plans to pair it with Hyderabad hub to strengthen India presence and target 6x order growth by 2028.
Hyundai Mobis has set up a new specialised software research centre in Bengaluru, its second R&D facility in India this year after the integrated hub in Hyderabad. The company will now follow a dual-centre strategy, with each location focusing on different aspects of software development to suit regional strengths.
Bengaluru was chosen for its strong software ecosystem, which includes major global IT firms, startups, and research institutions. The city is seen as having one of the best environments for software talent in the country. Hyundai Mobis evaluated several locations before finalising Bengaluru to address the rising demand for automotive software expertise.
The new branch will concentrate on infotainment software and areas closely tied to hardware, such as software frameworks. The Hyderabad centre will continue to serve as the main R&D headquarters, handling overall software strategy, global coordination, and application development.
By splitting responsibilities between the two sites, Hyundai Mobis aims to build a more comprehensive platform capable of meeting the specific needs of customers in India.
A key factor in selecting Bengaluru is the presence of several important Indian customers in the region. Having a local team is expected to allow quicker response times and improve competitiveness when bidding for orders.
The Indian market is gradually moving towards larger vehicles, which typically come with more advanced electronic features, including ADAS. This shift has increased the requirement for skilled software engineers. The company also notes that talent pools differ across Indian states due to varying languages, cultures, and dominant industries, making localised centres practical.
Hyundai Mobis already operates factories in Chennai and Anantapur, an after-sales parts centre in Gurugram, a quality centre in Delhi, and a procurement office in Chennai. With the addition of Bengaluru’s software-focused branch, the company now has a wider footprint across the country.
The supplier has set a target to grow its order value from Indian customers roughly six-fold by 2028 compared to 2025 levels as it looks to diversify its global portfolio.
