Hyundai and Radio Mirchi have launched the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI), which is a standardised, colour-coded real-time traffic rating system designed to help commuters make safer, hands-free travel choices.

Hyundai Motor India Limited, in collaboration with Radio Mirchi, has introduced the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI), a real-time, standardised traffic rating framework designed to simplify urban commuting.

Announced on 17 August 2026, the system has launched across seven major Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata.

Inspired by public frameworks like the Air Quality Index (AQI), TQI translates traffic conditions into an accessible 1-to-10 numerical scale paired with visual colour codes: Green (ratings 1-3) indicates light traffic, Yellow (ratings 4-7) signals moderate traffic, and Red (ratings 8-10) denotes heavy traffic. These updates are broadcast via Radio Mirchi’s network, allowing motorists to receive real-time updates safely without touching mobile devices while driving.

The TQI ecosystem relies on a multi-layered intelligence platform combining real-time tracking data, Radio Mirchi's city-wide on-ground network of radio jockeys and local teams, official traffic police advisories regarding road closures or diversions, and alerts on civic infrastructure projects or special movement events. By integrating these diverse inputs, the index enables drivers to identify congestion hotspots, plan departure times, and evaluate alternate travel routes.
