Drawing inspiration from video games and rally racing, the Insteroid reimagines the compact Inster EV as an aggressive, wide-bodied track machine
Hyundai has once again demonstrated its bold design philosophy with the introduction of the Insteroid Concept EV, a high-performance take on the Inster EV. The concept was revealed just ahead of the Seoul Mobility Show 2025. As Hyundai continues to push the boundaries of EV design and performance, the Insteroid concept embodies the company’s growing commitment to motorsport-inspired electric vehicles. Drawing inspiration from video games and rally racing, the Insteroid reimagines the compact Inster EV as an aggressive, wide-bodied track machine that wouldn't be out of place in the legendary Group B rally era.
The Insteroid’s design is heavily influenced by virtual racing aesthetics. The widebody kit, track-optimised wheels, massive rear wing, and diffuser all contribute to an imposing, aerodynamically efficient stance. The aggressive styling and aerodynamic add-ons suggest a car built for speed, agility, and track dominance.
Inside, the race-ready interior features bucket seats, a roll cage, and a performance-oriented instrument cluster. Hyundai has also integrated sustainable materials, including 3D knit fabric made from recycled yarns, reflecting the brand’s ongoing push for eco-conscious innovations in vehicle design.
Hyundai has not yet disclosed the specific power figures or technical specifications of the Insteroid. However, it has been confirmed that the concept incorporates performance features from the Ioniq 5 N, including a Drift Mode and an electrified sound signature, enhancing the driving excitement.
Given Hyundai’s involvement in electric motorsports and high-performance EV development, it is likely that the Insteroid could feature a dual-motor AWD setup with a power output that rivals existing N-performance models.
One of the standout aspects of the Insteroid is its integration with gaming culture. Hyundai has developed an interactive online game where users can modify an Inster EV in a time attack challenge, collecting in-game items to upgrade it into the Insteroid. This initiative aligns with Hyundai’s previous collaborations in virtual spaces like Roblox and Zepeto, allowing the brand to engage with younger audiences through digital platforms.
While the Insteroid remains a concept, its development signals Hyundai’s willingness to explore more performance-oriented EVs beyond its N-division models. Whether elements of the Insteroid make it into production models remains to be seen, but its unveiling at the Seoul Mobility Show suggests that Hyundai is keen on bridging the gap between racing, gaming, and electric mobility.
