The decision comes in response to a stark climate situation that has left the area around Imola waterlogged.

Formula 1's Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, San Marino, has been canceled due to severe flooding in the region. The decision, announced by Liberty Media, the FIA, and Emilia Romagna authorities, comes in response to a stark climate situation that has left the area around Imola waterlogged.

"It is heartbreaking to witness the disaster that has struck my hometown and region, Imola and Emilia-Romagna," expressed Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1. Domenicali conveyed his sympathies to the flood victims, affected families, and communities while praising the relentless efforts of the emergency services.

"The decision to cancel the event aligns with our commitment to ensure safety and avoid overburdening the authorities as they grapple with this calamitous situation," he further added.

Echoing Domenicali's sentiments, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem stressed that safety and recovery efforts remain the utmost priority. "Our thoughts at FIA are with those grappling with this tragic situation in the Emilia-Romagna region," Sulayem added.

F1 has not revealed if this round will be canceled or if this race will be rescheduled for later in the season. So far, 2023 will have 23 races, the most a season has ever had. In the event that the Imola race is canceled, there will be only 22 races in the 2023 season.
