India-bound Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Launched In Thailand

Toyota has launched the all-new and highly anticipated Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand at an introductory price of 1,269,000 baht (approx. ₹36.50 lakh). With this, Thailand becomes the first market to receive the “Baby Land Cruiser”. Commonly referred to as the FJ Cruiser, the SUV made its debut at the Japan Mobility Show last year.

The SUV is expected to go on sale in Japan around May this year. It will also make its way to India and is expected for a market launch in 2028. The FJ Cruiser will be locally manufactured at Toyota’s upcoming manufacturing plant at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) in Maharashtra. It is based on the same IMV body-on-frame chassis as the Fortuner and Innova Crysta.

In India, the FJ Cruiser is most likely to be positioned just below the Fortuner in Toyota’s lineup. Interestingly, in Thailand, the FJ Cruiser is priced just above the Fortuner which is priced at 1,239,000 baht (approx. ₹35.4 lakh). However, that will not likely be the case when it comes to India where it is likely to be priced around ₹25-28 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will be a more premium alternative to the Mahindra Scorpio N.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Exterior & Interiors

In terms of proportions, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ measures 4610 mm in length, 1855 mm in width and 1890 mm in height, and offers a wheelbase of 2580 mm. The boxy lifestyle SUV offers a boot space of 765 litres. The new FJ has a minimum ground clearance of 215.3 mm, and an approach angle of 31 degrees.

The Land Cruiser FJ stands out with a bold, upright stance and a rugged, boxy silhouette. Key exterior elements include LED projector headlamps, side steps, protective body cladding, and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. It is offered in three paint finishes: Smoky Blue, Platinum White Pearl Mica, and Ash.

Inside, the SUV comes equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument display. Other highlights include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, USB Type-C charging ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming IRVM, and a PM 2.5 air filtration system.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Powertrain

The Thailand-spec Land Cruiser FJ is powered by a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that pushes out 164 bhp and 245 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as standard. It is offered with a part-time 4x4 drivetrain that sends power to all four wheels via a low-range transfer case. The India-spec model, however, is likely to receive the 2.8-litre diesel engine that is used by the Fortuner, Legender, and Innova Crysta. This unit pushes out 201 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque.
