If there’s any automaker that can be personified as a benchmark of perfection it has to be Rolls-Royce. Sadly, once in a millennium, even the best swerve away from perfection and that’s what has happened with Rolls-Royce. The luxury marque has recalled 102 units of Cullinan in the USA.

This recall notification was issued on 12 March 2026 and mentions both Cullinan Series I and Series II. The affected vehicles have been manufactured between 27 November 2019 and 19 November 2025. The recall has been filed by BMW North American and listed on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Recall: What’s Wrong?

The official communication from BMW, parent company of Rolls-Royce, advises users of the affected units not to use the rear seats of the Cullinan. This effectively means telling users not to use their vehicles since most Rolls-Royce owners use their cars as chauffeur-driven tools. discovering that rear seat safety-belt hardware may not have been tightened correctly at the factory.

According to the safety recall report, the issue centres on the fastening bolts in the rear seating area. These bolts are responsible for securing the rear seat belt assemblies on both sides, as well as the locking brackets for the rear bench backrest. In some vehicles, one or more of these bolts may not have been tightened to the specified torque during assembly.

Over time, an improperly secured bolt can lead to more serious concerns. In the event of a collision, the rear seat belts may not restrain occupants as intended, or the backrest could move forward under load, especially if there is luggage in the rear. Both scenarios increase the likelihood of injury, particularly for passengers seated in the back — typically the primary occupants in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The issue first came to light on 23 January this year, when engineers at Rolls-Royce identified a rattling noise during a routine quality inspection. Further checks revealed a loose bolt near the rear seat. After discovering a similar problem in another vehicle, the company initiated a detailed investigation and subsequently opted for a voluntary recall.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Recall: Course of Action

The corrective action is straightforward. Authorised dealers will inspect the affected bolts, tightening or replacing them where necessary. As part of the process, the rear seat belt systems will also be checked for any signs of damage or improper fitment. All required repairs or replacements will be carried out at no cost to customers.

As a precaution, owners are being advised to avoid using the rear seats or placing cargo in the rear compartment until the inspection is completed. The advisory is preventive in nature, and as of now, there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with the issue. All necessary repairs will be carried out at no cost to owners. Notifications to affected customers are expected to begin in May 2026.
