The test track serves as a proving ground for startups and established companies.

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) unveiled the ADAS Test City in Pune on February 12, 2026. This facility aims to test vehicle safety systems on roads in India.

The launch occurred at the ARAI Mobility Research Centre in Takwe, near Talegaon. The site spans 20 acres. It replicates traffic conditions found across cities in India. Engineers designed the track to validate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Manufacturers can now evaluate technology in a controlled setting before vehicles enter public roads.

Officials at ARAI state the facility bridges a gap between computer simulations and real-world driving. The track allows testing for systems like Automatic Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control. Other features include Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection. The design mimics road networks in India to ensure systems function correctly in local traffic.

Dr Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, said that the facility supports the transition to safer mobility. The Ministry of Heavy Industries provided support under the Capital Goods Scheme to build the infrastructure.

ARAI aims to use the facility to strengthen development of indigenous vehicle technology. The test track serves as a proving ground for startups and established companies. It provides an ecosystem to verify safety claims. This initiative positions Pune as a hub for automotive innovation in the country. The facility is now open for operations.
