Production of the iPhone 15 is now underway at a Foxconn Technology Group plant in India.
Apple has commenced production of its much-anticipated next-generation iPhone 15 in Tamil Nadu, India. Ahead of its launch in early September, Foxconn has begun manufacturing 'made in India' iPhone 15 at its Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu. The move aims to diversify its manufacturing away from China, and Apple has been closing the gap between its Indian operations and its primary manufacturing base in China.
Sources familiar with the matter have revealed to Bloomberg that the production of the iPhone 15 is now underway at a Foxconn Technology Group plant in India. The production facilities in India are preparing to start shipping just weeks after the commencement of shipping from Apple's Chinese factories. This is being done to increase the shipments from India as Apple strategically diversifies its manufacturing footprint amid geopolitical tensions between the United States and China.
The Cupertino-based tech giant's foray into Indian manufacturing is part of a comprehensive multiyear initiative to lessen its dependency on Chinese production facilities.
Before the iPhone 14, Apple's manufacturing presence in India was limited, with a considerable lag of six to nine months behind its Chinese output. However, this discrepancy was significantly narrowed down last year, culminating in India accounting for 7% of iPhone production by the end of March.
And Foxconn isn't alone. The Pegatron Corp. and a Wistron Corp. facility, soon to be under the Tata Group's ownership, are expected to join the ranks of iPhone 15 assemblers in India.
The anticipation surrounding the iPhone 15 is at an all-time high, with the device expected to mark the most substantial update with an upgraded camera system, the advanced 3-nanometer A16 processor and a move towards the Type-C port.
