Jaguar Begins New Chapter With Type 01 Electric GT

Jaguar has announced the Type 01, a four-door GT that will mark the start of its next phase. The car introduces a shift in design, engineering and powertrain for the brand. Jaguar Type 01 will be an electric vehicle with zero tailpipe emissions and will be designed, developed and built in the UK.

The Type 01 name reflects the company’s direction. In Jaguar Type 01, the ‘0’ stands for electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while ‘1’ marks its position as the first model in this phase. The ‘Type’ badge links the car to earlier models such as the C-type, E-type and F-TYPE, which combined performance with road use.

Jaguar said the Type 01 uses a body structure that supports its electric setup. The car will use a tri-motor system that produces more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque. The company stated that the setup is intended to deliver both power and control for road use.

The design of the Jaguar Type 01 includes a mark placed between the bonnet and windscreen. This element carries the name and is part of the brand’s future identity. The company said this feature will appear on upcoming models as well.

Jaguar confirmed that prototype units of the Type 01 will be seen on roads in Monaco. These cars will carry a camouflage wrap and will be present during the Formula E race weekend, where Jaguar TCS Racing will take part. The appearance of these test vehicles is part of the brand’s plan to introduce the car ahead of its full reveal.

The Jaguar Type 01 will be revealed later this year. The model will set the base for future Jaguar electric cars in terms of design, technology and driving systems.

Jaguar Type 01 is expected to play a role in the company’s move towards an electric range and will form the base for future products.
