The telco plans to stock Starlink hardware in its physical stores nationwide.
Jio Platforms Ltd on Wednesday announced it has entered into an agreement with Elon Musk-owned SpaceX to introduce Starlink satellite Internet services in India. This comes just a day after telecom rival Bharti Airtel announced a similar arrangement.
Under the agreement, Jio will distribute Starlink's satellite Internet services through both its extensive network of retail locations and digital platforms.
The telecommunications giant plans to stock Starlink hardware in its physical stores nationwide and will develop dedicated customer support systems for installation and activation services.
This announcement is a significant expansion of satellite Internet options in the Indian market, with both major telecom providers now offering SpaceX's technology to consumers.
“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority," Mathew Oommen, Group CEO, Reliance Jio, said in a statement.
"Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India
strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all. By integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country."
